Tailteann

The Irish traditional music group Tailteann come from Ireland and have been playing music for many years.
The group takes its name from the name ''Tailteann Fair'' of ancient Ireland, an important annual cultural event which took place on the banks of the river Blackwater at Tailteann, Co Meath.
Band members Marty Byrne, Hugh McBrien and Eddie Smyth have a great store of tradiitional music, songs, stories and Irish humour to share with the world.
Over the years the lads have played in different formations and have gained a wealth of top class professional experience , performing on stages throughout the world.
Between them they play a wide selection of instruments including Button Accordion, Guitars, Whistles, Bodhran, Banjo, Fiddle along with three very powerful and beautiful voices.

Marty Byrne.
Marty was born in Dublin city and is an excellent guitarist and singer. He started singing and playing guitar as a teenager at the heart of the great Folk revival in the seventies. Marty was one of the founding members of the band Tara and toured throughout the USA and Europe. He has also taken part in the German theatre production of Brendan Behan's ''The Hostage'' and John M.Synge´s,,The Tinkers Wedding. Together with Eddie Smyth he recorded the highly successful CD ''The Toetapper''.

Eddie Smyth.
Eddie comes from the Royal County Meath and from an early age was influenced by the music of his parents, both fine melodeon players.His Grandmother Mary Bradley was also a fine Fiddle player.With this start he was a renowned accordion player before he learned to walk, appearing on TV and Radio when he was 12 years old.He has played and worked with many great musicians and is currently working on his own project featuring the great Dundalk Fiddler Gerry O'Connor.Eddie is also a fine composer.

Hugh McBrien.
Hugh also known as Mac was born in Dublin.He started playing Guitar at 10 years of age.During his teens he played with all kinds of bands playing everything from Led Zeppelin to Chuck Berry to Irish Folk.Hugh also sings harmony vocals plays Banjo, Mandolin, Bouzouki, Bass and has over the years developed his own style of playing, composing and arranging.His natural ability with the guitar has made him a sought after studio and backing musician.

Michael Poelchau.
For larger Festivals and concerts and as a quartet we will be joined on Fiddle by Michael Poelchau. Michael was born in Dallas Texas. His mother was a Pianist and there seemed to be always music in his home in Texas. As well as performing with Tailteann Michael is also a much sought after studio musician.
